My Exciting News!

My news is that I am going to (finally!) be a teacher next year. I will be teaching second grade at the school I've worked, student taught at, and subbed at. I am quite excited. I've been getting things ready and doing a lot of thinking about how I want things to go. I signed the contract on Tuesday, and I start on August 25th. So now, I am ready for summer to end. (Please don't remind me of this when I am complaining about how long it is till summer!)

On Sunday, we are going on a road trip. We will head east to Washington D.C. and then travel down to VA, and keep going down, then back West, and the finally back up North. We will see a lot of sights, and visit some good friends in Kentucky. It should be fun. We'll be back on the 2nd of July.

That's all for now.

Old News

For as long as I can remember, Nate and I have been told that we look very young, and we ALWAYS get carded for alcohol and never get carded for student ids at movies. Well, we must have aged this very week, because at Target, an old man sold us alcohol after glancing at us. Then we went to dinner at Outback and the girl brought Nate his beer without asking him for an id. Finally, the icing on the cake...we had to pay full price at the movie theater because we couldn't provide recent student ids. That one may have been a fluke, the kid looked like a rule-follower. But anyway, it's just been an odd week. Maybe my year of being a substitute has aged me. A little girl asked me why my eyes were purple underneath. Haha, maybe it's time to start wearing makeup!

Anyway, I have some exciting news that I can't share now, but I will soon enough. Stay tuned!

Spring-a-ling-a-ding-dong

It's finally feeling like spring! Most of this weekend was spent doing things outside. Including running nearly 3 miles on Friday night. I feel ready for the 5K...which is a week from today. That really came up quickly. I am pretty excited. I am also looking forward to being finished with training. I think my exercising will consist of doing 2 miles or so 2-3 days a week with a day of eliptical training. And of course I want to start lifting weights on a consistent basis. How else can I scare the children if not with my brute strength?

Speaking of the children, I really enjoy them. (I haven't mentioned yet...I am doing a 6-week long term sub position in a Kindergarten class.) I love watching them get so excited when they realize they can read a short book. Our days are good and bad, but I am coming to expect and accept that. I have to learn that it will not be perfect all the time. I am excited to have my own classroom for the time being, and I look forward to the day when I can actually say I have my own classroom. (Let's hope for August 25th, 2008!!!)

As I write this, I am cooking beef stew. For some reason, I have been craving it lately. This particular recipe smells divine right now. I am so excited to taste it. I only hope it tastes as good as it smells.

Other than that, life has been pretty still. (Which I am very thankful for!) I like the calm feeling. Lots of relaxation, sitting in the cool breeze of spring, and watching my herbs grow in pots around the windowsills. Summer will be spectacular. (Especially if I am waiting to start my first teaching job!)

Spring...with a side of snow

Goodness gracious. Who would have thought that the first day of Spring would bring snow along? And not just the light flurries but inches and inches of wet, heavy snow.  I'm not one to use smileys, but this one fits.

We started week 5 of our training. 1.75 miles. Last night, after drinking coffee, I hopped onto the treadmill and turned on some good old Justin Timberlake. I ran just over 2 miles. I don't know if it's the coffee or Justin. Or maybe both. It's crazy. I didn't think I'd ever make it this far. I was never one to work out very much.

I am getting a little discouraged about getting a teaching job. I know it's still early, but I just hate waiting. I really hope something works out this year. I feel like I have been waiting so very long.

Well, that's all I have to say for now. Hasta la Vista Baby.

Update

We finally got our insurance money and were able to buy a car. We bought a 2005 Honda Civic. Complete with a bottle of sparkling wine on the seat.

We are on our 3rd week of the 5K schedule. We are up to 1.5 miles. I have never ran this far before (I know, I know, it's not that much!) but I did it today. How exciting!

I applied for a teaching job today. My first application of the year. It is for a 1st or 2nd grade position. It'd be nice to get a call at least. I hope this is the year I get an actual teaching job.

I think that is all for updates.

Reminder- the baby hat I knitted is still available... (see feb. 2nd)
